Job Role & Responsibilities

The eCOA Build Programmer is a key role in clinical trial data management, responsible for designing, programming, and validating electronic data capture systems. This position involves cross-functional collaboration with clinical data associates, statisticians, and project managers to ensure high-quality data collection and integration.

Key Responsibilities:

Portfolio Delivery

  • Gather and influence eCOA design specifications from clinical trial protocols

  • Build, program, and test clinical trial databases and associated data repository mappings

  • Ensure accurate data collection and normalization aligned with study objectives

  • Collaborate with translation vendors for country-specific data collection

  • Support regulatory submissions, inspections, and responses

  • Lead high-complexity projects across therapeutic areas

  • Develop innovative solutions to enhance data validation and study build efficiency

Project Management

  • Optimize study build timelines and database delivery before first patient visit

  • Implement metrics for pre- and post-production changes in study databases

  • Ensure alignment with data standards, protocols, and regulatory guidelines (FDA, ICH, GCP, PhRMA)

  • Apply clinical knowledge to inform database solutions and workflow design

Enterprise Leadership

  • Implement process improvements to reduce study build cycles and enhance data integration

  • Actively share learnings across Data and Analytics teams

  • Enhance reusability of system screens and validation edits

  • Build internal and external networks to support clinical data strategies

  • Anticipate technical and operational challenges to minimize impact on project delivery


Eligibility / Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Life Sciences, Informatics, IT, Statistics, or related field

  • Hands-on experience in database programming and clinical data management

  • Working knowledge of eCOA (electronic Clinical Outcome Assessment), eDC (electronic data capture), eSource, or Direct Data Capture

  • Ability to design electronic CRF screens and implement validations

  • Familiarity with clinical protocols, terminologies, and data standards

  • Strong analytical and data visualization skills

Additional Preferences:

  • Programming knowledge: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Node.js, JSON

  • Experience with SQL, relational and non-relational databases

  • Familiarity with GITLAB utilities and database structures

  • Strong project and vendor management skills

  • Excellent teamwork, leadership, and communication skills

  • Ability to prioritize multiple activities in a fast-paced environment
