Position: Trainee – Discovery Chemistry (1 Year)

Location: Genome Valley, Hyderabad
Qualification: M.Sc in Organic Chemistry
Experience: Fresher (0 years)

This trainee position is designed for hands-on skill development in synthetic and medicinal chemistry under the mentorship of experienced chemists. You will be involved in routine lab work, synthesis of small molecules, basic purification and characterization, and analytical method support.


Job Role & Responsibilities

  • Execute basic synthetic chemistry tasks under supervision: weighing reagents, setting up reactions, monitoring reaction progress, work-ups, and isolations.
  • Learn and apply purification techniques: column chromatography (flash), recrystallization, and basic scale-up handling.
  • Perform routine characterization and analytical checks using NMR, IR, HPLC, GC, and LC–MS; assist in sample preparation and data logging.
  • Support medicinal chemistry workflows: assist in SAR (structure–activity relationship) studies, maintain sample inventory and compound tracking systems.
  • Follow and contribute to GLP-compliant documentation: maintain accurate lab notebooks, record experimental conditions, and generate basic reports.
  • Adhere to SHE (Safety, Health & Environment) policies; participate in lab safety trainings and maintain bench-level housekeeping.
  • Shadow senior chemists on method development and analytical troubleshooting to build competence in data interpretation.

Eligibility / Qualifications

Must-have:

  • M.Sc in Organic Chemistry (regular full-time degree).
  • Strong academic record and demonstrable laboratory coursework in organic synthesis.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills; willingness to learn and follow structured lab procedures.

Preferred but not mandatory:

  • Short internships or project experience in synthetic chemistry or analytical labs.
  • Basic familiarity with NMR/HPLC/LC–MS data formats and interpretation.
