NCCS Pune PhD Admission 2026 Notification Released for Life Sciences and Biotechnology Candidates

The National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS), Pune has officially invited online applications for PhD Admissions for the August 2026 session. Candidates with strong academic backgrounds in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and related branches of science can apply for this prestigious doctoral research program.

NCCS Pune is one of India’s leading biotechnology research institutes functioning under the Biotechnology Research and Innovation Council (BRIC). Educational Qualification

MSc Biotechnology, MSc Microbiology, MSc Biochemistry, MSc Life Sciences, MSc Molecular Biology, MSc Biomedical Sciences, MSc Genetics, MSc Zoology, MSc Botany, MSc Bioinformatics, MTech Biotechnology, MPharm, MVSc, and related postgraduate science degrees.

Minimum Marks Required

Candidates must secure at least 60% marks or equivalent GPA in postgraduate studies.

A relaxation of 5% marks is applicable for SC, ST, OBC, and PwD candidates according to Government of India guidelines.

Fellowship Eligibility

Candidates must satisfy any one of the following conditions:

• Valid JRF Fellowship from CSIR
• UGC JRF
• DBT Category I Fellowship
• ICMR Fellowship
• BINC Fellowship

OR

• Qualified JGEEBILS examination conducted by NCBS/TIFR in December 2025

Candidates qualified only for Lectureship (LS) in CSIR-UGC NET, DBT Category II, ICAR, or listed under the ICMR Project category are not eligible for this PhD admission process.

NCCS Pune may provide a limited number of fellowships to selected JGEEBILS-qualified students.

Age Limit

The upper age limit for JRF candidates is 28 years as on 1 August 2026.

Age relaxation for women, SC, ST, OBC, and PwD candidates will be applicable as per Government of India rules.

Selection Process

The selection process for NCCS Pune PhD Admission 2026 will include:

• Final merit selection

Shortlisting for interviews will be carried out according to NCCS selection criteria.

Fellowship and Hostel Facilities

The fellowship amount and terms will be governed according to the funding agency providing the fellowship.

NCCS Pune will not provide fellowships except for selected JGEEBILS-qualified candidates.

Selected students may also receive hostel accommodation on a first-come, first-served basis.

NCCS PhD programs are full-time research programs, and selected candidates may be required to stay on campus.

Reservation Policy

Reservations for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and PwD candidates will be applicable according to Government of India norms.

Candidates belonging to reserved categories must upload self-attested certificates during application submission and produce original documents during joining.

• Reservations will be in accordance with Government of India guidelines. Applicants from SC/ ST/ OBC/ PWD/ EWS categories must attach a self-attested copy of the relevant certificate wit their application and provide the original certificates at the time of joining. This includes SC/ST (caste certificate), OBC (latest non-creamy layer certificate), PWD (PWD certificate), and EWS (income & asset certificate).
• NCCS Ph. D. program is a full-time commitment, and selected candidates may be required to reside on campus. On-campus hostel accommodation is provided to selected students on a firstcome, first-served basis.
